...and yesterday was the first time in my life I spent more than $100 on shoes for myself. Of course my wife insisted that I spend the money. These have the motion-control soles to help mitigate the roll-out in my stride and adequate support to keep my poor feetsies from hurting.
I got some of these:
New Balance 993. They're like walking on really firm clouds.

First time? Damn my last two pairs of work boots were over 100

My dad wears those, had for over a decade, and before that he wore NB 991s, but they discontinued those. He keeps buying the same pair as they wear out. Also Steve Jobs wore 993s

That’s a great price for 993s.

Are they for walking or running? I run 4 miles every other day and then ramp it up in the fall (I run the Detroit Free Press Marathon every year). I burn through shoes like they’re disposable. I buy them from Amazon and always get the same brand because I know the size that fits me (have worn Asics since I started running a LONG time ago). I’m 53.
As you might gather from the photo, I am what you call a “heel striker.”

Walking for now. As I’ve got tendinitis in my feet I need something that has a good mix of support and cushion. I work in the office of an auto upholstery shop so I’m in and out of a concrete-floor all day. I haven't run more than a mile at a clip since about 2007 and I'm hoping to transition to running when I lose a little more weight and can do so without aggravating the pain.

That’s a good way to approach it. Nothing worse that starting out too hard and injuring yourself - which sets you back. I don’t light the world on fire with my times but I do finish every year. Gives me a goal to work toward - and something to motivate me on a morning like today when it was hotter than hell.
Believe it or not, this is at the 26 mile mark of the Freep a couple years ago. I look better than I felt.

I know what you feel. I have long narrow feet (size 12, B-C width) with real high arches. Almost impossible to find shoes that fit. Wound up buying Red Wings.

I spent nearly $200 for my shoes. Only buy Asics for my running shoes, currently have the GT-1000 with Duomax:

Paid $170 for my last pair of work boots. Bought some Big Bills for landscaping, money well spent.

Yeah my newest pair of Rockys were 130 I think but they have composite toe and heel protectors and waterproof so well worth the money

My family all has wide, flat feet and pronates.
My dad has been buying 993s for a long time. I have a pair of Saucony Stabil CS3s for my workout shoes. They’re lighter and more cushioned but still have the motion control.
(I have like 25 pairs of sneakers, several of which are other NB models, but ones I bought for the looks. Never been much of a 993 fan style-wise.)

Sweet wear pattern on that right pair! Reminds me of what happened to my last pair of Docs

Mine have the protectors and are waterproof. They're also rated to -60*C and are fuel, oil resistant.

Yeah the 993s have always been a tad on the boring side but damn are they comfortable. I used to sell shoes for sports authority and we always sold a shit ton of them

Last year, where they let you personalize your race number, I put RUN STEVE RUN.

The sad part is I go through a new pair every couple of months. Just the heels. I wish someone would make a pair with that portion of the show made to take that beating.

I’m a fat boy with wide feet and high arches. It makes it hard to find decent shoes without adding orthotic accessories.

I’m a pretty big guy, wide feet, high arch and love New Balance - they are the most comfortable athletic shoe brand I have found. I like their 510s.
